This is an outstanding example of 19th century color lithography from LaFuente's Arte Espanol, published Madrid, circa 1880. Many of the prints from this work have vibrant, beautiful gold and silver leaf accents which were hand applied. Little is known about this work as it was acquired unbound and without a title page. The illustrations are beautiful and very collectible.
Armas Del Siglo XVII (weapons of the 17th century) is resplendent with silver and gold leaf details. When the lithograph is held up to the light, it is magnificent with bright metallic touches and the colors such as the reds and browns are very rich. Among the items detailed in this lithograph are a very ornate helmet and shield, the swords of Philip IV and the Duke of Montemar and a crossbow and pistol.
Size and Condition
The paper is heavy stock and the margin color is soft beige. Condition is very good with one small faint spot on the upper right and a few minor creases and soiling mostly in the margin area. The overall size is 9" x 12 ¾".
