This is an outstanding example of 19th century color lithography from LaFuente’s Arte Espanol, published Madrid, circa 1880. Many of the prints from this work have vibrant, beautiful gold and silver leaf accents which were hand applied. Little is known about this work as it was acquired unbound and without a title page. The illustrations are beautiful and very collectible.
Coronas Y Cruces Visigodas De Guarrazar is resplendent with silver and gold leaf details. When the lithograph is held up to the light, the bright metallic touches and the colors are very beautiful. The Treasure of Guarrazar is an archaeological find composed of twenty-six crowns and gold crosses that had originally been offered to the Roman Catholic Church by the Kings of the Visigoths in the seventh century in Hispaniola. Among the items detailed in this lithograph are various elaborate crowns and crosses.
The paper is heavy stock and the margin color is soft beige.
